Knowledge Organization: Classification and Cataloguing Theory
Objectives: To acquaint the students with theories and principles of knowledge organisation in libraries with regard to
classification, cataloguing and indexing tools.
Course Objectives/Learning Outcomes:
- Understand the concept and terminologies related to information processing and retrieval
- Understand the different types of classification, Modes of Formation of subjects and general schemes of classification
- Understand the need and purpose of library catalogue and analyze the different physical and inner forms of catalogue
- Understand the concept and types of indexing, generate coordinate index entries and construct Thesaurus
- Understand and analyze various bibliographic standards and formats
