Knowledge Organization: Classification and Cataloguing Theory
Objectives: To acquaint the students with theories and principles of knowledge organisation in libraries with regard to 
classification, cataloguing and indexing tools.

Course Objectives/Learning Outcomes:

  1. Understand the concept and terminologies related to information processing and retrieval
  2. Understand the different types of classification, Modes of Formation of subjects and general schemes of classification
  3. Understand the need and purpose of library catalogue and analyze the different physical and inner forms of catalogue
  4. Understand the concept and types of indexing, generate coordinate index entries and construct Thesaurus
  5. Understand and analyze various bibliographic standards and formats
